Darwin Youth Services

Young people and caregivers in Darwin and Palmerston can access early-intervention support through mentoring, counselling, respectful-relationships education and caregiver psychosocial education. It is not a crisis service. Enquiries can be made on 0457 439 838.

Children’s Therapy Services – Darwin Children’s Development Team

Eligible children from birth to 18 can receive free developmental assessments and goal-based physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology. Families may refer their child, subject to Medicare cover and the child not being on the NDIS. The team is based at Casuarina Plaza, serves Darwin and Palmerston, and does not travel remotely. Carers NT

Pandanus – Childbirth Education and Perinatal Support

Pregnant women aged 25 and under in Darwin and rural areas can access free, confidential childbirth education through Anglicare NT. New mums under 25 can also receive postnatal education and peer support. Individual assistance may include case management, transport and referrals during pregnancy and for up to three months after birth.

Parents experiencing separation can access child-focused co-parenting education, individual counselling for parents and children, and family dispute resolution. Courses are held at 5 Nemarluk Drive, Ludmilla. Bookings are required through Resolve on 08 8946 4800.

Relationship Counselling – Relationships Australia Northern Territory

Couples and families can discuss parenting, conflict, separation, divorce and other relationship concerns through face-to-face, phone or video counselling. No referral is needed, but both people must speak with intake before a joint appointment. Fees vary according to income; call 1300 458 600.

Territory FACES

Parents, carers, young people, family members and professionals can call this free Territory-wide enquiry and support service for connections to parenting, family, home, budgeting, housing, health and community assistance. It operates Monday to Friday on 1800 999 900.

Healthy Families (AOD) – CAAPS Aboriginal Corporation

This Darwin-based 12-week residential alcohol and other drugs program works with individuals and families. It includes education about substance use, healthy lifestyles, trauma and healing, parenting and family relationships. Families attending with children, or seeking reunification, must complete the accompanying-children form. Enquiries and referrals are available on 08 8922 4852.

CASY House – YWCA Australia

Young people aged 15–18 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness can access youth crisis accommodation and support in Greater Darwin. Self-referrals and referrals from service providers are accepted. Crisis referrals are available 24 hours a day on 0418 481 119.

Darwin Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Shelter (DAIWS)

This Aboriginal Community Controlled service supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children affected by domestic, family and sexual violence. Assistance includes 24/7 crisis accommodation for women and dependent children, transitional housing and outreach programs. It serves Darwin’s northern suburbs and also supports clients from remote communities.

Dawn House

Women with children in their care who are escaping domestic, family and sexual violence can seek urgent safe-place pathways and counselling. Phone 08 8945 1388; Dawn House identifies this number for emergencies at all hours and for other enquiries during business hours.

Domestic and Family Violence Centre Darwin – YWCA Australia

Women and non-binary people, with or without children in their care, can receive tailored support after experiencing or being at risk of family and domestic violence.
